Most important part of travel planning is to know what you want to do, if you follow others that say what is must see, then you can rush to see sights that you really not like.
I like more countryside and mountain sight than city holidays.
How I started My Travel Plan
When I get an idea that needs to get away a long time. I start to look at countries that are big enough to make travel challenging and I can make some mountain climbing.
I choose China because that offering endless opportunities to see everything that interests me and you.
The journey plan should not start as I start. I just put in Google search “China dangerous mountain” and end up start my journey Xi’an that I can get up Mount Huashan using a trail called the “Soldier’s Path” as know also the “Heavenly Steps” and then walk plank trail.
Out of Xi’an city have The Terracotta Army that needs to see, also that the city offers all kind of tourist attractions.
When I had locked the start of my adventure, then I start to look at what else I could do if I survived that mountain hiking.
Next, I find out that is possible to do fantastic hiking “Great Wall of China” (maybe find a place that not be overcrowded with tourists).
Of course, this is a detour to go north and then continue the journey to the south. Luckily I have enough travel time to do extra detours in my travel plans. Easily even these plans change when traveling.
What I find out when I read more about China
Seems to be that I have to be skeptical about everything that will be offered to me and I have to find my own information where to go and how to get to my destinations.
They have tourist places everywhere, even old villages, odd trees, little waterfalls or hole or cave in the forest, then they make it right away tourist trap with amazing stories and activities on site.
Even small towns where are only some rice fields, they ask entrance fee to see them or visiting local Town that they called “Ancient Town”. That just means Village or Town that no one has never take care of it and local people invented traditional performances (or maybe bring real ones back for tourist).
Need to be prepared, that you stand out from the crowd and all the tourist scouts are immediately attack you and you must be harsh in order to keep them away.
Accommodation owners only provide information or tourist tours that bring more money for them.
In China, most likely 2/3 of the journey are related tourist places, but some places can rent a bike or scooter and go lost in the countryside to see how the local people’s lives in their villages. Also, some farmhouses offer meal and place to sleep if you want to feel more local life.
Communication will be fun, because no common language and have to use your imagination to communicate or use a translator, but remember they can also translate weird stuff.
Of course, all journeys you have to know how to assess the risks and then you are ready to enjoy the adventure on your own.
Everyone seems to want to complain about everything and it is difficult to see positive things, but that’s why I go there with the open mind to find out positive things.
